Skin Detox Masks: High End Vs Drugstore

A thorough skin detox is a routine that has become a weekly necessity for me throughout the past few years. By the time the weekend comes, my skin always feels super needy of some attention, even though I double cleanse and gently exfoliate every night. I'm sure at some point I'll do a full skincare routine post, although I feel that I need a whole post to compare these two products; Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask & Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask

It's only been the past two years or so that I've really gotten into my skincare, as much as I don't like to admit that. I've become so obsessed with my routine that when I hear other people say they don't even cleanse, I want to bury my face in my hands.. and I literally face-palm when somebody says ''I don't take off my make-up at night''. It's beyond me why anybody wouldn't spend even 5 minutes per night to look after their skin, especially when the long-term effects of not taking care of your skin are so drastic!
My skin type is generally combination with oily T-zone and some dehydrated patches, which makes finding suitable skincare products a bit of a pain. With oily skin comes a lot of pores that are in need of a good clear-out, to say the least, and that's where these charcoal masks come in. I'm not 100% sure of the scientific facts, but the active charcoal acts as a magnet to help draw out the impurities from deep within the pores, whilst removing excess oil to purify the skin. After using charcoal masks, very minor break-outs are completely normal as the mask helps to bring all the dirt and whatever else to the surface. Therefore, you might end up with a one or two bumps from time to time, but trust me that once this clears up, your skin will look 10x better than it did previously.

LOW END: Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask - £10.00
I recently purchase this mask from Sanctuary in the hope of finding a gentle charcoal mask, if such a thing was possible. In comparison to the Origins mask, this one is much thicker in consistency while it actually warms up as you rub it onto your face, which actually feels really soothing. Once you stop rubbing it in and let it sit, it does not continue to heat up, therefore it feels really comfortable on your skin.

If you look at the picture below, this mask is the lighter grey shade on the right hand side. I generally stick to 5 minutes at most with this mask, then remove with a damp muslin cloth and my skin genuinely feels so refreshed and purified afterwards. Unlike the Origins mask, I don't tend to get a lot of break-outs with this one, yet my skin and pores look noticeably clearer the very next day. Another plus is that this mask comes off the skin very easily, it's definitely not one of those masks that feels like it's taking half your face off when you try to remove it!
Overall, I'd highly recommend this product if your skin needs a bit of help, and I'd say it's well worth the very reasonable price. Note that the packaging of this product has been changed recently, although I'm sure that the formula of the product has been kept the same.

HIGH END: Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask - £23.00
As this was the first charcoal mask I'd ever tried, I had nothing to compare it to, and very little expectations, so initially I thought it was great. If you look at the photo below, this Origins mask is the darker shade on the left. Last year, I would have used this mask on a weekly basis to clear my skin of the impurities that had built up throughout the course of the week.
Compared to the Sanctuary mask, I found this one to be much more abrasive, and although I broke out shortly after using this mask, my skin generally didn't look or feel much different after the break-outs cleared up, which is why I prefer the Sanctuary mask. As well as this, the Origins mask is much more difficult to remove from the skin. After a few minutes, it dries quite hard on the skin to the point where it is uncomfortable to move your face at all.

All in all, I'd definitely recommend the cheaper Sanctuary mask over the more expensive Origins one. Also, this is definitely the first product from Origins that has been somewhat of a disappointment as I tend to love many of their other skincare products! This particular mask just didn't work for me personally!
I'd love to hear your thoughts on these products if you've tried or want to try them! Are there are other masks you'd recommend?
