Topshop Christmas OOTD

I hope everyone is enjoying Christmas week and fully indulging in the festive goodness. This Christmas has been the most relaxing I've had in so many years... no January exams to stress about and no long hours working in retail over the festive period. Instead of getting super dressed up on Christmas Day for what is always just a 'sitting in/eating food/drinking wine' day, I went for a more casual (and arguably not festive at all) look... it's just not comfortable wearing a tight dress or skirt through Christmas dinner! I picked up this floral wrap-around top from Topshop last month (similar items linked below) and paired it with a Topshop white cami underneath and a pair of wet-look jeans from Oasis.

Tropical Vibes

Palm trees and cocktails by the beach are the epitome of what the perfect summer day should entail.. but when you're living in Ireland, tropical prints on your clothes are about the height of your luck. These prints have been gracing the shop windows since the beginning of the summer season and whilst I'd love to pick up all of them, there are actually very few days in Ireland that are 'summery enough' let alone warm enough to pull off the beachy paradise prints.

But of course I had to buy just one *maybe 2, 3 or 4* though and attempt to create an outfit that is suitable for an average 16 degrees 'summer' day where I live. So with that in mind, I chose to go for this Warehouse off-shoulder bardot style top which looks great both sitting off your shoulders and also if you wear it as a regular top to give a square-ish neckline. I love the splash of blue and green print on the white background, which makes for a perfect combination when paired with blue or white denim jeans, or even with a denim skirt.

I've linked this top and more tropical printed pieces if you'd like to have a look. X

Spring/Summer Casual Ft. Adidas Superstars

Follow

Hello there. I feel like I'm completely out of practice with writing content on here as I had taken some time off for studying (the joys of being a student), but I'm back and ready to start afresh, so hopefully I'll not be too long getting back into the swing.

I recently bought the Adidas Superstars that quite literally everybody has been wearing and lusting over since they first became a massive trend. If you know me in person, you'll know that I'm the last person on the planet to wear anything sporty, so spending the best part of £60/70 on trainers just for taking on holiday made me face-palm a bit. It was actually much to my surprise that I completely fell in love with the look of them and also how comfortable they were.. and I've been wearing them a hell of a lot more than I thought I would. I'm travelling to America at the end of this week so no doubt they will come in extremely handy as I'm sure this trip will involve a lot of walking.

Another thing that I love about the Superstars is that I can wear them with many different outfits, and with pieces that I would have never even contemplated pairing with trainers in the past. In the photo below I paired my Adidas with Topshop Joni Jeans (my usual favourite), a very old Warehouse floral top & my Exhibit lace jacket, which is yet another old piece. My white Guess bag also went perfectly and brightened up the outfit that bit more.

I'd love to know what way you like to wear Superstars or how you've seen others wear them as I'm always looking for inspiration! You can subscribe via Bloglovin' to keep updated with my new posts and thanks so much for reading xxx

The Continuous Stripe Obsession

Follow

So if you follow me on IG you will be well aware of my current stripe obsession that seems as though it's not going to fade way any time soon. I know striped pieces are always in the shops year round, but they seem to be literally everywhere at the moment.. or else they're just more eye-catching than usual. New Look is also a shop that I don't normally go out of my way to visit, but I was so glad I did when I found this wrap-around kimono style top and also a grey/white stripe sleeveless jacket that I have yet to wear. I paired the kimono with a Topshop white cami underneath, Topshop blue Joni Jeans and Office boots.

Missguided Shirt Dress

Follow

This week has been so hectic for me - hence the tired face - that for a few days I almost forgot what it was like to dress in anything other than jeans and a jumper, even though it's essential for those days where you just need to sit and get stuff done. So despite my sleep deprived face, I thought I'd share this outfit featuring my new Missguided shirt dress that I'd been so excited to wear.

Honestly, I'd prefer if it was just a teeny bit longer so I'd feel more comfortable wearing it as a dress (although I am approx 5'9 so it would definitely fit an average height person perfectly.. lol).
I found it on Missguided when they had the 50% off everything sale and managed to buy it before the site completely crashed.. so I picked it up for £14 - absolute bargain! It was one of those pieces that I had imagined a million different ways I could wear it when I spotted it online. When the rain eventually goes away for a few days, I'll definitely wear this unbuttoned as a long shirt with a grey cami underneath tucked into white jeans.. or even tucked into a white skirt. The options are endless. For now, I loved the way it looked when paired with my H&M grey maxi cardigan to add a bit of length.. so it's a perfect transitional piece for Spring!

P.S. Sorry to anyone who took the time to leave me a comment on my previous post.. for some reason last night I lost all of my comments. I managed to get all of them back except the ones on my last post! x

Transitioning Into Spring

Follow

Firstly, apologies for my lack of posting lately - I've been so incredibly busy these past few weeks  with essays and other events that I've not been able to manage posting twice weekly. For the time being, I'm aiming to post once a week on a Sunday evening.. and my Wednesday posts will happen if I've got time (sorry!). Once June hits, I'll be free-ish once again so please bear with me!

Anyway, you may have seen my posting these photos on my Instagram this past week.. and I'm definitely making it look as though we're having much better weather than we actually are. It's safe to say that these outfits were definitely accompanied by another layer on top, but I wanted to share some more of my Spring-ish pieces with you all as you always leave such nice comments!

The contrast between dark navy and yellow will always be one of my favourite combinations. I paired this quite old Missguided cropped off-the-shoulder jumper with an ASOS body-con denim skirt which is again, quite old. Chunky knits are definitely associated with winter, and the winter sales are definitely where you can find amazing knits for very little money, although the off-the-shoulder style of this jumper makes it very Spring-appropriate, not to mention the bright yellow shade. I'll definitely bring this to America with me this summer to layer over a dress for the evening time!

Lusting Over Leopard

Leopard always has and probably always will be one of my all-time favourite pattern. I'd definitely never dress head to toe in the print, but adding a hint of leopard to my outfit is something I've been loving recently. I spied the two leopard tops at Topshop and since I'm trying to add more bold prints to my wardrobe this year, these were the perfect additions. Bold printed tops make amazing layering pieces when paired with a leather jacket on top, or with a denim skirt.. but I'd definitely say keep the rest of your outfit plain when the main piece of your outfit (top, dress or jacket) is (a) heavily printed or (b) has strong colours in the print. Neutrals (even if they're patterned) tend to work well with bold prints, just as long as the two don't clash. I recently paired a navy/cream stripe top with my leopard scarf and I loved the look, but I definitely think the neutral stripes are what made mixing the two patterns more wearable. Bold printed accessories are also some of my favourites right now - I love adding a leopard scarf to a very simple outfit to add a statement look.
I'll link all outfit details below along with a few other favourites...

How To Wear 'Double Denim'

If you've been reading my blog or following my Instagram for some time, you'll know that I'm not usually the type to stick with one solid colour in my outfits. I really like to mix prints with plain pieces, statement jewellery with button up shirts and neutral shades with a pop of  colour in my lipstick or accessories. If anything, I definitely don't usually dress totally in the one colour. Recently, though, you will have seen in my Shades of Grey post that I've been trying out the 'all one colour' outfits and I actually received some really nice feedback.

I definitely would have never thought I'd be doing the double denim look as I cringe so much looking back at that famous photo of JT and Britney.. that's definitely not the look I was going for. (LOL)
Although it's a style that a lot of people would tend to stay away from, I think double denim is definitely wearable when you play around with different materials and shades as opposed to sticking with the exact same colour, top and bottom.. switch it up for sure! I paired my favourite pair of Topshop Ripped Joni Jeans in quite a dark denim that I purchased a year or two ago, with a very old lightweight cotton button up shirt (I'm pretty sure this was bought in France one year), rolled up the sleeves and tucked it in to my high waisted skinnies to make it look a bit more modern and 'chic'.

For a more wearable look, I couldn't resist adding a bright pink lip shade (MAC 'Cherry' lip liner) to 'brighten up' the outfit along with a long necklace with an oval turquoise stone for an added bit of colour, yet still keeping things neutral with a pair of fringed beige booties - very similar pair on Missguided on sale for £14! I've linked these products and similar pieces below to re-create this look.

Shades of Grey: 2 Outfits

Being a person whose moods are most definitely determined by the weather, I literally feel so much more content on the days I can look out my bedroom window and still see daylight after 5pm.. although recently, Ireland seems to be stuck at grey, cold and rainy.. hence the grey outfit to coincide with the weather. All I can say is thank god February is almost over as I'm super excited for the spring/summer months this year and all they've got to bring, not to mention the SS16 styles that I'll be seeing at Belfast Fashion Week in March!

Nautical Vibes

I'd say for a lot of people, stripes are definitely a must-have in our wardrobes, whether it is black&white, navy&cream or red&navy combo that you prefer. For me, I'm absolutely loving navy and cream stripes at the moment. Especially coming into Spring, I  love  how they look when paired with a coloured lip and gold jewellery for a little extra bit of colour and detail.

What I love most about stripes is definitely the versatility - you can really go all out with the stripes for a statement look, or use stripes to add subtle detail to a simple outfit. I purchased the navy and grey(ish) kimono that I'm wearing in the image below from H&M a few weeks ago, for very little £££ of course. It is quite oversized on me, so I cinched it in at the waist with a skinny brown belt and added a pop of mustard with my Topshop cami, a denim ASOS skirt and a gold statement necklace to tie it all together. Outfit complete. I'm really loving wearing statement pieces like this recently.. they're so easy to throw on in the morning, and you always look like you've spent more time on your outfit than you actually have! *wink wink*

ZARA Trench Coat

A trench coat is an absolute essential in any girls wardrobe. They were so on-trend over AW 2015, but if you're living in the UK, you'll definitely be able to wear one pretty much all year round! I found this beauty in ZARA in May of last year although I was initially put off buying it as a vision of Inspector Gadget came into my head as soon as I tried it on LOL.. anybody remember that TV show?

Not only that, but for £79.99, I wanted to be absolutely sure I'd wear it. Tried it, bought it, loved it.. still love it. This coat has saved me a lot of late-to-class mornings as your outfit underneath can be as basic as jeans and t-shirt. Throw a trench coat on top and you look a lot more put together than you otherwise would have! The material of this coat is quick thick, therefore ideal for the single digit temperatures. ZARA just sold out of this coat a few days ago, but for reference, I'm a size 8 in most stores and I picked up a size small in this coat.. it fits perfectly! I'm sure ZARA will bring out many more this year.. I can't wait to see!

Let me know if you've found any trench coats that you're loving this year!

OOTD & Amazing Primark Boots

I will always be an advocate for the 'never get rid of your clothes.. they will come back into style' saying. I had bought these black wet-look/leather-look jeans from Oasis, probably in 2012 when the likes of leather skinnies and leggings were massive and everybody was wearing them! They had only been worn on one occasion and managed to become lost at the bottom of my ridiculous jeans collection. But over Christmas, they had been re-discovered and I've been loving pairing them with belts and boots.

I'm usually the type to avoid  Primark  at all costs. I normally don't have the patience for the queues or when most of the clothes are lying on the floor, but when I found these stunning  burgundy boots  for  £30, the mile-long queue didn't seem so much of an issue anymore. They seem to be the exact boots that had always been missing from my shoe collection and I've gotten  so  many compliments and questions about them since.. they just look and feel  so  much more high-end and expensive.  I paired these with a  New Look  strappy vest in a similar burgundy shade,  River Island  kimono,  Topshop  statement necklace (as always) and a thick brown belt to add a little extra detail.

Let me know what you think of this outfit in the comments below! Have you found any amazing bargains in the January sales recently!?

Style: A Step Into Spring

By the middle of January, the icy weather is definitely a bit played out. I used to be a person who loved winter and all that came with it, but this year I can't wait for the better weather and brighter days - any bloggers will understand the frustration of having at most a two hour  mid-day slot to take product/outfit photos due to the lack of sunlight.. there's no doubt that I'm ready to wave goodbye to winter.

Over the past week or two, the high street stores have been bringing in new spring pieces and I'm over the moon to finally see the lighter colours come, and the chunky knits go! It's like I've been anticipating the spring all throughout November/December, so once Christmas had passed I felt that it was finally acceptable to wear my pastel pink MK bag that hadn't seen much light over the past few months.

Of course I was absolutely freezing and had to add a white coat in the end.. which isn't the best option when you're going for a steak and red wine sauce, but at least it was an escape from the dark hues. My kimono is from last year's H&M spring line, pink cami is Topshop (available in light pastel pink) , jeans are Topshop Joni's and my boots are quite a few years old, but from New Look!

Have a look on my Instagram for more spring style <3

Thank you for reading and I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments! What colours/trends do you love to see in spring!?
